Happy Friday! May 30, 2008

Hello everyone! This is my first blog post as an "official" member of the Upsy Daisy Design Team - how exciting!

I knew as soon as I laid eyes on the Cupcake Collection that it would be fun to work with, and it most certainly was! I am really drawn to vibrant colours, and with 2 teenage daughters, these patterns and colours were ideal!

I like to keep my pages fairly clean and photo-centred, but I also like to sneak a little bit of technique and interest in sometimes too. On this page, I stamped onto a different patterned paper using the super fun Make a Bloom stamps, and then I cut out where I had stamped and used pop dots and bet teh petals upwards to create a bit of dimension. I layered a couple of ribbons from Savvy n Sassy, and added a simple title.
Nothing complicated, nothing too busy, but I really love the end look!

Thanks for having a peek and have a wonderful weekend!

Kathy

HI Everyone!

This layout was great fun to do! I have had these photos in a box waiting to be scrapbooked for four years and I knew that I just had to use the new Tweet line. These colors are great for any baby boy page and I love the brown, it really helps ground the patterns of the paper.

The ribbon from Savvy N Sassy was a perfect match for the paper and the Thicker letters from American Crafts are as well.

Enjoy,
Misty

Everlasting Beauty

Being a creative person can sometimes be a bit exhausting - especially when you become a member of this great company and have lots of gorgeous paper, stamps and rub ons to play with!
My DT pack arrived from Amanda and the team at Upsy Daisy and I have been playing with all of the new ranges of papers all week. There was one range of paper that simply SHOUTED out to be used, though, and that was the Everlasting Beauty range.

A range of double sided papers that had me drooling, let me tell you!

Combined with the fabulous ribbon pack sent to us by Savvy 'n' Sassy - oh! I was in seventh heaven. These glorious ribbons simply had to be used with the Everlasting Beauty papers, and here is the result.

Photobucket
I used the back of "Dreamer" as the base, then matted the photo on the back of "Enchanting", added some vintage sheet music and used the deep chocolate brown of the back of "Natural" another sheet of paper to provide depth to the background.
Then I cut out some of the imagery on the deep burgundy "Natural" paper and used them as embellishments.
To finish I then used the Upsy Daisy co-ordinating Alphabet stickers to add the title.
The papers coped brilliantly with everything I did to them - sanding, inking, scoring, tearing - you name it! It lends itself to a vintage "feel" so the photo was also doctored in Photoshop to go with the vintage theme.
The entire LO was then held together by those wonderful ribbons which were folded, sewn and stuck on in layers to add interest and depth to the page.
The Upsy Daisy Stamps "Floral Flourishes"were then used with "Old Rose" coloured ink as simple flourishes beneath the embellishments and title.
Although this might seem like a busy LO, it took very little time. I guess that's what happens when you've got great products to work with!
Take care everyone,
Sarah xx

Cut It Out

Hello! I'm so excited to be posting my first blog post for UDD. This week I created a layout using the London Blush line. I loved all of the big flower prints and immediately decided to cut them out and use them as embellishments. I also curled up the corners of the flowers with my fingers just to add some dimension. Now I know that this isn't a new technique, but it's one that I love. The Savvy n Sassy red metallic braid ribbon was perfect for this layout...thanks to them. Hope everyone has a great week.

"Off the Page"

Hey everyone! very excited to be doing my first post AND my first project as part of the UD team. Hope you can be inspired by this product as much as I am- 'cause it's just too cute and functional!!!
So have you ever scrapped "off the page"? I tried it for the first time just a few weeks ago and now I can't stop doing it! It's such a new challenge for me and I feel very inspired in every page I've done. So here's a couple of hints to get you started on a new "style".

Hint 1:

Take whatever size paper you scrap and cut it down by 1.5" - 2" on each side. Save the "scraps" because you'll want to use these as your "guidelines" for your off the page pieces. (remember... you still want your pages to fit inside your page protectors!)

Hint 2:

Challenge yourself with using as many scraps as you can to add dimension. Use different shapes as well. This will not only add dimension, but it will look super complicated and make the viewer want to just look and look at this masterpiece! (and that isn't always such a bad thing is it?!)

One thing I know I love doing is using pattern paper to create my own embellishments. Find a piece that you can cut circles out of or doodles and create a one-of-a-kind embellishment that is a perfect fit for your project. In this LO, I punched circles out of one of the Cupcake papers and used Gloosy Accents for the centers. I also added Gloosy Accents to my letter stickers to create a whole new look. And don't be afraid to add "extra" things to already made embellishments either. :)

What I love most about this page is how I was able to take the Savvy n Sassy thick ric-rac and use it as an actual piece of my page, versus just an embellishment. Don't you just love how it can turn out when you try something new?!

I would love to see all your "off the page" creations. Load them in the comments to show everyone what you've created! Have a fantastic day!!! :)

Flutter

I used the new Flutter line on this "Thinking of You" card. Butterflies are certainly very popular right now and the Flutter line has plenty! I pulled out the pink and cream colors of this line by painting a chipboard butterfly with Ranger crackle paint and then spritzing it with vintage pink Glimmer Mist. The lace and button were from my stash that I picked up at an antique store = the perfect place to find these vintage goodies!
