Our Fourth New Designer....

Grace Tolman....

"My life in a nutshell: During the day I stay at home with my kids, a 6 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. Our days are filled with school, trips to the library, park days and sometimes when they're good a trip to Burger King or McDonalds. At night I work part time as a Retail Associate at Aeropostale. A hip, fun clothing store that I constantly use as a great source of inspiration for my paper projects. I have a loving and very supportive husband of 7 years. He's supported me all the way in this addiction I call "scrapbooking".
Although I’ve been doing some type of scrapbooking since grade school, I only started to scrapbook seriously after my son was born. When he was born I knew I will be staying at home with him but coming from a fast paced sales job I was afraid I would ran out of things to do during the day. Little did I know that with a newborn you won’t have anytime to do anything else. Anyways after going through a basic scrapbooking class I was hooked and haven’t stopped scrapping since. My style has evolved through the years but there's one thing that never changes- my quest to tell the story. That's always the first thing I think of when I want to make a scrapbook page and/or project. And lately I've been inspired by pattern paper and fun, bright colors.

Stay in Touch

Do you know the feeling when you sit back and think that there are some peeps you should really contact, as you haven't spoken or written to them in ages?

What better way to just grab your scraps and create a few quick cards - just send one to someone who least expects it and make their day. We all love to get a little suprise in the post, right?

It can either be a Thank You card, as in "Thank you for being a friend" or a little love note - whatever the sentiment, your recipient will be thrilled you took the time to create something for them.

For the first card, I initially wanted to create something without a sentiment and left the little journaling block empty - but somehow it didn't feel right to me, so I added one of my trusted stamp-spots to it. I think I prefer the second version of the card :)

UDD Products used:
Papers #UDD0129. Serenity; #UDD0127. Calm >> both from the TWEET line
Stamps #UDD208. >> Chic Bebe

And for the Thank You card I mixed and matched lots of different Upsy Daisy Design Product - I just adore how well all the different lines compliment each other.

UDD Products used:
Papers #ED011. Charmed >> from the ENCHANTED line; #WP011. Beautiful >> from the WALK IN THE PARK line
Stamps #UDD210. >> My Guy
Rub Ons #UDD0077. >> Sweet Slumber-Boy

I hope I was able to inspire you a little to get those scraps out and sent those cards to your loved ones :)

Say "Hello"....

to Julia :)

"Hi there! My name is Julia, I am from Brazil, and I’ve been a paper designer since I was able to hold and cut with scissors! I considered myself a very blessed being ‘cause I have never been rich or anything similar to it, but the Lord has helped me so much to grow up as a human being in all senses, that, whenever a good opportunity comes my way, I put as much love and effort as I can so that at the end it turns out being a great new something on my life.
In 2004 I started learning 3D paper techniques and took a refinement course at the Alicia's Atelier in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

On 2007 I started focusing on Scrapbook and, since then, our home office has never been the same! In 2008 I got the following Certifications: SDU (EK) Basic Course, in Brazil and SDU Advanced Methods, in Chicago. With great joy, I accepted the invitation to become Scrap Teacher at a local store in Brasilia-Brazil, as well as member of the Hobby Farm Design Team 2009.

At the moment,I juggle among my daughter raising, family, career, community work, teaching …, besides the everyday scrapping hours! August this year I attended the USA CKU-Provo willing to get updated and learn even more of Scrap technique. And… Won! Yes! I won the CKU contest “Best Project on the Overall”. And that’s not all! It’s September, spring time in Brazil and flowers are just blossoming and, together with it, I got the wonderful news that very soon Upsy Daisy will have its products sold on the Brazilian Market and… from now on I have a spot on the Upsy Daisy Design Team!!!

I shall thank the Lord, my close family and my true friends for the wonderful achievements in my life. Their support and love make all difference in my life"

Introducing the new Designers...

First off, a big "Thank You" to every, single one of you who sent in an application.
We were all floored with the entries, and torn-up at selecting the final four new members.

So without further ado, please welcome:
1. Sandi Counceller (U.S.A)
2. Janis Medina (Phillipines)
3. Julia Saddi Reffati (Brazil)
4. Yuko Motoyama (Japan)

We're going to introduce you to the new ladies over the course of the next day or two.

To start, meet Sandi Counceller:

"My name is Sandi Counceller and I live near Atlanta, GA.
I have been married since 1996 and have one very photogenic daughter who is 7 (Kayla). My husband works for the US Defense Department.

I have a degree in Business Administration and previously worked as a Web Site Designer, but now I am blessed to be a scrapbooking SAHM!

I started scrapbooking in 2005 and was instantly hooked! My scrapping started at the kitchen table and has moved to a larger and larger space over time. My scrapping obsession began in earnest after I won the “Best in Show” layout at the Creating Keepsakes Convention in Phoenix (2006). That was absolutely a huge boost to me!

I am thrilled to be on the Upsy Daisy Design Team! I just love all of their patterned papers and that they are now branching out to include more and more embellishments. I think that Upsy Daisy Designs is also on the cutting edge for new ideas and it is exciting to be a part of this team!"

... and Janis Medina:

"Hello! I’m Janis, a scrapbooker from the Philippines. I am married to a very supportive husband JE and a mother to Nat (4) and Phil (2).
I started scrapbooking April 2008 and have never been able to stop. I do mostly 12x12 pages, usually with my kids as the subject, but I also dabble in cardmaking and altered projects from time to time.

My style can very much adapt to the papers and embellishments that I design with although a play on bold and bright colors usually stands out on my layouts (hence, the monicker Ms. Bold and Bright among friends!).

I have a penchant for elaborate layouts - - I love putting details and textures on my pages. Clustering, layering and distressing are the usual techniques that I use.

I am soo thrilled and beyond excited to be designing for Upsy Daisy and being part of a truly talented bunch of ladies. Here’s to having fun, reliving memories and celebrating life ahead!"

So, stop for a bit and say "hello" to the new ladies.
You can visit their blogs, which are linked to the toolbar on the right hand side here...

Come back tomorrow to learn about the remaining two new team members.

Bit and Pieces

I used the Spellbinders "Small Deckled Mega Rectanglers" to make this a fun background for this layout.

I simply cut out several rectangles with different Upsy Daisy papers and pieced the layout togehter like a puzzle!

Blessings Abound

As summer draws to an end (which happens especially early here on Canada's East Coast!) I wanted to share an autumn layout that I made with A Walk in the Park line. To make the curled paper at the bottom of the layout, cut a strip of paper approximately 2" wide. Take scissors and cut the strips but take care that you don't cut all the way through your paper. Take a pencil and wrap your cut up strips around the pencil and hold them them for a few seconds. When you remove the pencil the curl will remain in the paper. You can uncurl a few pieces so it gives it a more whimsical look. It's a very forgiving technique that only take a small amount of paper so I hope you give this a try!
