A Challenge for you all!

Hi Guys,
And welcome September! The months seem to fly by now, and it will get even worse now back to school is upon us. Between lunch making, cab driving(lol), and working...my life seems to be flying past so fast! So...how about we all slow down and have a little Upsy Daisy Challenge!

For this Challenge, I'm going to give you a recipe to follow, I made this little Love Plaque using the following recipe, so lets see what kind of scrappy genius you ladies can create!
1)Include a butterfly
2)Include the colour PINK!
3)Include Bling of some kind.
4)No regular 12x12 or 81/2x11 LO'\s aloud. I want to see a card, a altered project or an unusually sized LO(Think 6x6 etc).

The summer is almost ending here at my side of the world, the days are getting colder and there is cold and chilly nights.

To keep me warm and to feel the summer warmth again, I scrap all the great pictures I have had the possibilitie to take this summer.

Hello everyone, this is Kim here with you today showing you a mix and match layout using older and newer lines from Upsy Daisy Designs.

I love how fantastic all of their older lines mix with the newer ones and you just wouldn't know which one is the older stash it if I didn't point it out.

I have made the concious decision that this year I was not going to buy any new stuff unless I would be working away some of my older stash - it is amazing not only how much money you save but also how creative you can get with paperlines older than three/four years.

The background paper is from the Fantastic Freeway collection which dates back to 2006!

I just love the burlap/texture look of this paper, which works perfectly with the Tweet line from 2007 and Vogue from 2009.

Off the Page Challenge!!!

Hello everyone!

It is Jacquelin here today with a challenge to get you off the page and onto your desk! The Upsy Daisy challenge this week is to create an off the page project for yourself! I have put together this quick little note holder for my desk at work - it does double duty as a photo of my family and a place to store post it notes.

I used the fabulous Vogue line -

the flowers were perfect for fussy cutting! This is an easy project - I used a clear acrylic photo frame as my base and then just had fun with a photo and these fun papers to decorate the frame. A little holder for post its completes this off the page project!

Step by Step - Handmade Stick Pins

Hello everyone, Marielle here today to share a quick and easy step by step tutorial on how to make your very own decorative stick pins using some of your favorite Upsy Daisy supplies !

Start by assembling your supplies ,you will need:

Quilting pins

Hot glue gun

Wire cutters

Various UDD decorative brads

Small images on your favorite UDD papers and Rub ons.

Step 1- Add a dab of hot glue to back of decorative brad, add pin and fold the attachment part of the brad as shown.

Step 2-Using wire cutters, cut off the attachment portion of a plain brad .

Step 3- Glue to the middle of your flower. You can also add some of your favorite gems.

You can also fussy cut small images like these cute little cupcakes. You'll just need to glue them on to one of your pins (to note that I took off the little "ball" part of the pins for these ones.)

The "dream" image is a rub on.

Here are those little cupcakes. I could go on and on with ideas for these pins. I hope you'll give them a try on your next project.They are a super easy way to add a little something special to your layout or card. :)

Our House

I also created this layout for this month's challenge of creating a project with a quote in the title or journaling. Mine was easy because I just cut out a small card from the Home Sweet Home collection that says " Home is where the heart is" So true!!!

For fun , I cut out a few of the small houses and made pins for my layout!!

Hope your summer is going smoothly and you're enjoying the hot summer sun! This week I decided I wanted to get some cards done, who doesn't like having a stockpile of cards for all occasions on hand? I know I do, and it's sooo super easy with Upsy Daisy because they have thos handy dandy sheets with all the sentiments already on there. I decided to do just that using the Vogue papers and here's what I came up with!

So what kind of cards do you like to stockpile up on? Birthday? Christmas? Thank you? For me, it's always birthay! It always seems like someone is asking me for a birthday card...between the 5 of us, it's always someone's birthday!

Hi everyone!!! I have a super easy challenge to those who want to play along with us this month - - make a project (can be layout, card or altered project) with these must-have ingredients: RICRACS and BRADS!!!

To make my embellishments, I layered my cutout stamped image using the circle stamp from #UDD209. Girl friends Clear Stamp Set, my layered ricracs (#RIB403. Vogue Ribbon and #RIB401. Blossom Ribbon), cutout images from the Cupcake Collection (#UDD0134. Delicious and #UDD0132. Icing on Top papers), and brads (#BRD311. Blossom).

Paper flowers + how to

Happy Monday to everyone. Grace here to share with you a project I made using the "A New Day" paper line. I decided to go with these papers because of the Independence day we are celebrating this month.

want to make one yourself? here's the easy instructions to make this project....

1. Gather your supplies. I used a bit of each of the papers in the "A New Day" line, some pipe cleaners; small thin wire, buttons, die cut machine with a flower cartridg, chipboard star, rubon from the Oh Happy Day pack, border punch, adhesive of your choice, some rice and a recycled jar.

2. Next I worked on cutting my flowers from the pattern paper. I made sure I cut them in different sizes which the largest at 3" and the smallest at 1 1/2".

3. Then I layered them together. I put together about 4-5 layers for each flower. I also used my finger to curl up the edges to give the flowers more dimension.

4. Repeat the process to make as many flowers as you'll need for your vase.

5. With a paper piercer, poke two holes through a button and all the layers of your paper flowers.

6. Thread the wire through the holes and secure at the back.

7. Tie the wire around a pipe clearner. Repeat steps 5-7 for all of your other flowers.

8. Cut a strip from pattern paper and add a decorative border punch on both long edges.

9. With some heavy duty adhesive, wrap the paper around the jar. Trim off excess paper.

10. When I was placing the flowers in the vase/jar, it seems like it was wobbly so I poured some rice in there to keep the flowers upright. I use this technique all the time when I put together my own flower arrangements. Dried beans and rice are perfect in my opinion because you already have them on hand and when you don't need them for your flower arrangements anymore, you can still cook 'em.

11. I transferred the circle rubon from the Oh Happy Day rubon sheet onto the white pattern paper and then trimmed it to size.

12. I wanted to use a chipboard star to compliment my theme but because the star didn't match my color scheme, I covered it up with paper.

13. Trim off excess paper from the edges of the chipboard star.

14. Sand the edges for a cleaner look.

15. Adhere the star onto the rubon circle and add a red button with baker's twine threaded through it. This completed my red, white and blue color scheme!

16. Adhere the circle rubon to the center of the jar with a foam adhesive.

Strike a "SOCCER" Pose!

One thing about having a boy, sometimes when I want to use papers, I feel I am a little at a disadvantage. It's easy to find papers for girls, super duper easy...and it's even super easy to find papers for little boys, but to find papers to use for a tween boy, it can be a challenge.
So...when I went to get down to business this month for my blog post, I thought I would choose a typically girl line and shake it up a bit and do a real boy page. I mean how girly can a line called "Vogue" be? with names like, Fashionista, Strike a Pose & Diva, I had my doubts. Well, it turns out, it's much more versitle that it sounds!
Vogue is a gorgeous line, I love the deep green and navy blue contrast and the patterns are to die for! Check out these papers...

Absolutely stunning, and the page with sayings, journal spots etc is just the icing on the cake. I was able to find a great quote that totally fit in with my page!

So there you have it, not all papers are what they seem, try something new, out of the box and you'll be surprised with what you come up with...

Hi there everyone!!
Today Is challenge day :) Lets see how you use fabric and punches together with the UDD paperlines on your page...
I did a page that looks like this:

I have mixed and matched my paperlines, so you can find the Modello #UDD0049, A walk in the park-#WP012, A new day-#ND013, and See ya later alligator #SYLA011,on my page. And even though they are totally different paperlines they fit together perfectly with their soft colours.

The edge punches I´ve used is from EK success, and Martha stewart. I´ve also added som fabric flowers from Prima, and tulle to give the page a softer style.

Make a Sketch from an Ad

This month Upsy Daisy Design Team Coordinator challenged all the Daisies to use an ad as inspiration for one of their Upsy Daisy projects. Here is the ad she challenged us to use:

What strikes you first about this ad? The design? The colors? The shapes? I think I was first struck by the the grouping of circles and the white space in the design. Then I thought about the colors in Home Sweet Home and thought they would be a perfect match for the colors in the ad.

Once I decided on which collection to use I started to work on the design of my layout. I decided to take the ad and turn it into a sketch.

As you can see, I kept the sketch 8.5x11. I turned the tomato sauce can into the photo. I kept the diagonal design of circles. The ad copy I turned into some journaling lines. The only thing missing was a place for the title, so I added it towards the top in the middle.

Finally it was time to translate all my choices into an actual layout:

In the actual layout, I decided to use a journaling card with "On this day...." as the title so I moved the journaling up to the top. I layered punched patterned paper circles, smaller punched scalloped circles and these circular brads:

So there you have it...from an ad to a sketch to a layout. If you use either the ad or my sketch for inspiration, I'd love to see!

Make Your Mark!

Hi everyone! It's Robyn here with an idea for using scraps of your favorite papers to make something you can use every day.

One of my goals for the summer is to catch up on my reading. I've got a list of books -- way more than I'll ever have time to read -- and I can't wait to dig in.

As I was cleaning up my scrap room, I couldn't bear to part with all the smaller scraps of my Upsy Daisy Home Sweet Home papers, so I decided to make some bookmarks.

Supplies Used: HSH011-Alma, HSHo12-Beach,HSH013-Cedar Crest, HSHo14-Madison St, HSH016-Rockland Rd, BRD316-Home Sweet Home Embellished Brads, BRD312-See Ya Later Alligator Brads

I cut the scraps to 2" x 5.75" and then embellished using cutouts and punches from the other scraps I had on hand. I also added in a doily that was laying on my scrap table. I cut parts of it so that I could use it on two of the bookmarks.

I finished each bookmark with a couple of strands of ribbon that I stapled on top. Then I used an Embellished Brad to cover the staple.

It's nice to know that I'll be seeing these papers again and again...every time I open my latest read.

Cupcake thanks!

Hey everyone, it is Jacquelin here and today I have a quick and easy little project tha tyou can use to say thanks to a favourite teacher or happy birthday to a special friend.

This little paper cupcake is fun and fast and a great gift! I used the fabulous "See You Later Alligator" line - it is perfect for teachers!

Here are the basic instructions:

1. Using a craft knife, trim a piece of florist’s foam to a 2 1⁄2×1 7⁄8" cylinder. Cut a 6 3⁄4" circle from first patterned paper and fold it in half. Fold the circle in half four times, then unfold it until it is a circle again. There should be 16 creases in the paper.

2. Create an accordion fold around the circle by folding from one crease to another. Open the paper and place the center on the foam cylinder. Press and shape the paper over it. Turn the cylinder right side up and hot-glue the paper pleats evenly around it.

3. Cut ten to twelve 3⁄8×12" strips of a second patterned paper and wrap them around a pencil to create spiral loops. Insert a straight pin in one side of each loop and stick it into the exposed foam. Don’t worry if some of the foam shows around the edge.

4. Add a chipboard phrase to the front. Hot-glue a lollipop sticks to the backs of punched phrase. Trim the stick to the desired length and stick them into the foam. Add a gift card of your choice!

And just because I love this line - a quick little layout all about our family's love affair with Rockband!!

For the love of plaid !

Hi there, Marielle here today with a fun technique for you. I love, love ,love plaid paper and I thought it would be fun to make my own plaid design using the different stripes found on the papers of the Cupcake collection.

You will need striped papers (of course), white cardstock ( I used a 6x6 piece) ,a paper trimmer and glue.

Cut various widths of different colored strips of papers.

Glue them on your piece of cardstock weaving them as shown.

until you are happy with the look of you plaid pattern paper !!

Then use it to make a fun little layout about a sweet little cupcake. (this little cutie is my niece !!)

This month theme was to use a song for inpiration...mine was Celebrate (from Madonna.)

I made little banners using the rub on cupcakes.

Hope you'll give this technique a try on your next Upsy Daisy project.

The first example I have to share uses paper from three totally unrelated lines: " Man About Town II", "Cupcake" and "Unwritten".

Step-by-Step Card Tutorial

Hi Girls!!! Julia speaking! I am so happy to be responsible for May's Tutorial. As lately I have been so into Card making, I come to share a Step-by-Step Card Tutorial with you showcasing Upsy Daisy's "Home Sweet Home" Collection.

Step 1:

Choose the paper collection you will be using to highlight your work. On this card, I chose to use the Upsy Daisy 'Home Sweet Home' Collection.

Step 2:

Choose a neutral cardstock as your base - I generally use white, black, cream or light blue, but its your choice, so feel free. Score the card and fold it in half. If you don´t have a bone scorer, or a folding plate, try using a rub-on tool.

Step 3:

Sort through your papers and coordinating embellies, besides any other materials and techniques you may ellect to work. I did a lot of cutting, before choosing the elements I would be using. And, at this time I chose to use a frame, a clear round acrylic frame, from a brazilian trend called Arte 1.

Step 4:

Choose a patterned paper with small patterns on it and cut it into +1cm stripes as you can see on the photo. If your frame is not an adhesive one you may, first, add double tape to the back of the frame.

Step 5:

Attach the paper stripes to the frame, as shown, as tight as possible and living no blank spaces.

Step 6:

Create your card with a special touch of yours, but using a Sketch, in case you need saving time! Then, mix your chosen stash and check if they work well together. Add, replace and remove items until you feel happy with their position, until you feel they are right where they should be! Then, just stick them down and voilá!

Here in the UK we have a bank holiday today, which means that office people have a day off work...woooohooo!
What better way to celebrate than with getting stuck into paper and glue and create up a storm.

Today, I have a card/tag combo for you, which I hope you will enjoy.

For the card, I made use of papers from two very different collections: VOGUE and AVALANCHE

For the tag, I used some left-over scraps from the AVALANCHE line to create the rosette and added a cut up RUB ON as a further point of interest to the overall design

I love how my flowers turned out!!! I just stamped and cut out the images and formed it in a circle flower. Easy peasy. ;o)

P.S. I rarely mix and match collections as most of the time, I want to showcase what can be done with that line - - but in these layouts, I had a blast mixing a lot of papers from different lines!!! This just shows how versatile UDD papers are!!!

For you treat container PLUS a challenge

Hi all!

I'm so excited to be the person to share with you a challenge for this month.

But before that let me share with you a project I made using some fun Upsy Daisy Designs products....

For You Treat Container

I recycled a scrapbook product packaging and turned it into a candy container. This package used to hold chipboard alphabets. I covered the back (where the manufacturer info were) with pattern paper from the Cupcake line and made a paper wrap that went all the way around the project using cardstock, more papers and ric rac.

To cover the part where you can hang up your box with, I punched out more papers with my 1/2" circle puncher, adhered a whole row of it and then added some stamped flowers from the Girlfriends stamp set. I also finished it off with brads from the Blossom pack and pearls (from my own stash

I used the big circle stamp from the Girlfriends stamp set to create my title block and then added some letter rubons. I added more flower stamps on this too.

So now that I've shown you what I did....I "challenge" you to do the same.....repurpose a scrapbook packaging into something new! Don't limit yourself to using just the packaging, you can cut it up and use parts or all of it into a layout or card.

Alternating the two sides of the paper, I arranged five circles on top of each other, pierced a brad through the middle and crunched each circle edge close together - to create wee flowers.

Using the #UDD124. Classy Brown - Alpha (8x8) Rub Ons for the sentiment, here is my Mother's Day card for 2011

And as I still had the above papers on my desk, I created a Happy Birthday card to go with it, but this time using the #UDD190. Sweet Celebrations Rub Ons for the sentiment

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is doing alright,, spring is in the air.. and I hope to see the green grass soon again, we have had a really tough winter with loooots of snow.

Today I will show you a really fun and easy card to make, its a Tri fold card, it looks more advanced than it is..

All you need is a cardstock, three sheets of matching patterned papers, and glue.
just check out this small videotutorial and you are almost done ;)

the measures is:
6"x 12" cardstock
the folds are at 2", 4", 8" and 10"
the papers I used is: #VO011. Catwalk, #VO012. Chic, and #VO016. Strike a Pose

Multiphoto Layout Challenge

Rebecca here with an Upsy Daisy layout challenge.

The challenge this month is to create a multi photo layout (3 or more photos) and include at least one detail shot. The detail photo should be of a thing rather than a person.

Hopefully including a detail photo will help to further tell a story on your layout. My example is here:

Tutorial: Rolled Edge Window Card

So I have a question for all of you: who's ready for Spring? I know I am! Over the last week, I've seen some buds forming on the trees and some beginnings of spring flowers starting to sprout...very encouraging signs that Spring is on its way.

With Spring in mind, I've been playing around with the Vogue collection. The color palette is so bright and cheerful...and very Spring-y!

Today, I'm going to share a technique I've been playing around with: rolled edges. Upsy Daisy rub-ons are a perfect way to incorporate sentiments into your cards, and I wanted to find a way to really set them off. So I created a frame for them by rolling the edges of double-sided paper back to create a dimensional window. Take a look...

Upsy Daisy Supplies used: Runway #VO015, A Little Birdie Told Me #UDD 193

The rolled edges are a great accent and very easy to create. First, take a sheet of double-sided paper (I'm using Runway -- #VO015) and cut or punch a circle. (Keep in mind that, once you roll the edges back, it will end up being a larger circle than the original cut.) I cut a 2" circle for this frame.

Next, use a craft knife to make small cuts all the way around the edges of the circle. You want them to come straight out from the circle, like rays of sunshine. My cuts are about 1/4" long, but you can make them longer if you'd like more of a roll. They do not have to be perfectly straight or cut exactly the same length...there's a lot of room for error in this project!

Then take a skewer or a skinny paintbrush tip and roll the edges of each "ray" away from the circle slightly. (You can also use a quilling tool, if you have one.)

Continue all the way around the circle to finish out your frame, then mat and/or back it with coordinating paper as you wish and add the rub-on to the center.

Here is another example where I varied the sizes of the circles.

Even though I'm showing it on cards, you could easily incorporate this technique into a layout. Wouldn't it be fun to create a journaling spot this way?

Cupcake Love!

Whenever I look at the Blossom Papers, I automatically want cupcakes. Chocolate cupcakes, not too sure why, but the colours must trigger some kind of cupcake magic to my brain. So when I put the two together(my cupcake obsession and the awesome PP's of the blossom line) I came up with these birthday cards made with my Cricut! I absolutely adore polka dots and the two papers really make my mouth water! :)

Tissue Paper Flowers - Tutorial

Hi everyone!

Spring is just around the corner and the flowers are up here on the lovely West Coast of Canada! To get readyfor the season of flowers, today I have a little tutorial on making tissue paper flowers, using some wonderful brads from Upsy Daisy! Let's get started:

Begin with some plain white tissue paper. You will layer 5 or six pieces together and cut a small ( about 1.5 inches) circle out of the layered paper:

Next, you will crumple up the layers, making sure each one is very crumply! Add a brad through the middle ( I used Upsy Daisy #BRD311- Blossom):

Spray the tissue flower with your choice of spray ink or mist - allow some to settle on the brad. Heat set with heating tool. Fluff again when dry, add a pearl to the centre of the brad if desired, and you are done!

These are great for adding interest and texture to any layout or card and are quick and easy to make in any size. Here I have used them in a layout featuring the lovely Blossom line:

February challenge- Strips

Hi all, Marielle here, this week it's my turn to post on the Upsy Daisy Design blog and I wanted to to challenge you to make a layout using up those strips of paper found at the bottom of pattern papers from any of the UDD collections ( I think those are always so fun to get) and from the element sheets.I chose the Avalanche collection for my project and the Summit "element" sheet.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's tutorial day on the Upsy Daisy blog so I decided to get my stamp on and show you how to stamp on candles.

Materials:

Materials include: Waxed paper, a white candle, white tissue paper, ink, scissors, a heat tool and your favourite Upsy Daisy Designs stamps. I used Chic Bebe and Girlfriends for this project.
Step 1:

Stamp your image onto the tissue paper. I stamped on the shiny side but I have not done any experimentation to see if that really matters. I used a few different stamps to create the image you see here.
Step 2:
Carefully cut around your stamped image and place RIGHT SIDE UP on the candle.

Step 3:
Take a piece of waxed paper and place it on top of your stamped tissue paper. Hold it firmly in place and make sure it is smooth on your image. Heat emboss until you no longer see any tissue paper.

Step 4:
Remove the waxed paper and take a peek at your candle. If there are any bits of tissue paper still visible, repeat step 3. You can buff your image if desired with your waxed paper.

I also made a coordinating gift bag for my candle using the "Cupcake" paper line and the same stamps I used on the candle.

There are so many possibilities for themes with the Upsy Daisy lines so feel free to adapt this idea to suit any holiday or occasion.

FUSSY CUTTING WITH HOME SWEET HOME

Most of the times, the first things I look at the papers are the patterns that I can cut. I love it when I can cut a lot of shapes and layer them on top of each other to achieve beautiful clusters that would accentuate my photos.

It's love at first sight when I got hold of Home Sweet Home, I had a blast cutting the flowers and the birds found in Alma paper. I'm sharing with you two layouts today - - both having a lot of fussy cutting!!!

Here's my first layout: The big flower cut-outs are perfect for scrapping my 5x7 photo (it's my current fave size to scrap!!!!):

Supplies: Home Sweet Home papers (Alma, Maddison St., Midland Ave, Rockland Rd), Walk in the Park Fabric Brads.

The Walk in the Park fabric brads work perfectly as flower centers:

Random cut-outs adhered with pop dots for added dimension (itty bitty houses from Midland Ave. over Maddison St.'s!!):

Here's my second layout: I love this saying from A. Danielson found in Maddison St. paper, but I couldn't think of a title that would go well with it (so forgive me for the very original "Remember" title!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!). I cut the quote strip in three sections and incorporated it in the design of my layout:

Supplies: Home Sweet Home papers (Alma, Beach, Cedar Cres, Maddison St., Midland Ave, Rockland Rd), Walk in the Park Fabric Brads.

January's Product Showcase

hHi all. As most of you know by now, we are changing things up a bit here at the Daisy Diaries blog for the year 2011. The fourth Monday post will be allotted for technique or product showcase.

I'm very honored to be the first one in this year to share my showcase and I chose product.

Over the last two CHA's, Upsy Daisy Designs have features specific papers in their new lines with journaling blocks and quote strips. This is one of my favorites in each line and I decided to share with you what I did with the Avalanche's Summit paper.

In my page, I decided to put my focus on one photo. I think the picture of my dad and daughter is so precious that it deserved a full page just for it. Anyways, I used the wipeout paper as my background because I love the neutral color but the distressed design gave it some pop.
I then layered some of my favorite strips from the line. I loved the "there is only one you" quote that I decided to make that my title.

with the smaller blocks like this clock above, I added it as an embellishment, filling the middle with a flower and a UDD brad.

I used my daughter's shirt color as a visual triangle element and matched it with my two flowers on the page. I added another UDD brad in my layered flower above.

As you can see, there are so many possibilities with the Summit paper. You can use most of it in one page, like what I did here or just spread them around to a few pages or even a mini. For an example of this, check my blog. I posted a mini using the same paper lines.

Fun Bubbles!!

When crafters see the “Avalanche” papers from Upsy Daisy Designs, they immediately think “snow”, right?

Well I thought “BUBBLES!”

I found a really cute bathtub board book at the craft store to use, but you can use bubbles on layouts or cards or any other project.

I wanted to think of different ways to make bubbles for my “Fun Bubbles” mini book.

(1) I punched holes in parts of the blue shades of the Avalanche papers and some from cardstock.

(2) Then I wanted to “decorate” the bubbles different ways. I used gems, stickles glitter and paint, and the Upsy Daisy Clear Stamps “Make a Bloom.”

(3) After decorating my “bubbles”, I used a clear-drying glue on top of each one…. (you can use the Glossy Accents or Gloo, or any other clear-drying liquid glue). Cover each bubble you designed with the clear-drying glue and let dry completely.

(4) Attach them to your project with whatever adhesive you choose.

(5) I also used a few of the round Upsy Daisy Designs brads for some of the bubbles!

(6) For the large bubble on the cover, I actually used a clear nail polish I found with sparkles and tiny hearts that were already mixed in the clear polish.

There are so many ways to make your own bubbles! Have fun using papers from all of the Upsy Daisy Designs patterns to make your own bubbles!!

A Year in Review

I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing and blissful start to 2011 - may it be full of joy and prosperous for you and your loved ones.

This year we are changing things around a bit on the Daisy Diaries and have come up with different themes for our weekly musings, which we hope you will enjoy:

On the 1st Monday of the month, we will show you a project - which can be anything but a layout.
On the 2nd Monday of the month, we will share a step by step tutorial with you
On the 3rd Monday of the month, we will set you a challenge
On the 4th Monday of the month, we will showcase a specific technique or shine the spotlight on one of our wonderful products

So, what do you say - shall we get this party started?

For my first post this year, I am excited to share an envelope mini-book with you, which used many different Upsy Daisy Designs products.
Mini books are prefect to use up all those scraps that you may have saved from you favourite papers.

Throughout 2010 I have kept a list of all the good and bad things that I encountered each month, and I blogged regular about it. That meant, at the end of the year I could print out all the lists I posted and finish my yearly review in a flash. I am not going to bore you with every single month, but show you a few pages of the mini book. Hopefully this may inspire you to create you own mini book with a review of the passed year.

Hi there everyone!

This is my first blog post for the Upsy Daisy design team blog, and I'm thrilled and nervous about it :)

Since the Christmas celebrations is over, its time to focus on the next big event this year... the New Years Celebrations. I have the cutest little idea for you to use at your party, Its a small paper Fortune Cookie. Aren't they adorable?

And I have a step by step tutorial for you today on how to fold these cuties. They are great for the kids treasure hunt, or as a fun way to wish all your friends a really happy new year.

well I better stop blabbing,,, here is the steps..

1.
Cut out a paper circle, the size of a Cd is great. Place one of the cut out paper circles in front of you. If you have a paper circle that has a pattern on only one side, place the pattern side down. Meaning, the side with no pattern should be visible. I have used the Avalanche paper line for this one.

2.
Fold the paper circle in half. You do not need to make a hard crease, just gently fold the bottom end up to meet the top. At this stage you can also put in a small paper ribbon or a trim to make your cookie a little more festive.

3.
Take both outer edges and pull them down to meet each other. Once again, you do not need to form a hard crease, a slight tug downwards on both ends will form your shape. Your paper will now look like a fortune cookie.

4.
Add a dab of glue or a glue-dot where the two ends meet to secure them. In order to hold the shape of your fortune cookie the adhesive is necessary.

Make as many as you like, put them in a bowl as a centerpiece at the table, or give everyone a cookie together with the placing cards when you set the table.

Rub On Decorated Ornament

Hi Everyone! I am so excited to be here for my first official Upsy Daisy blog post! I have a step by step tutorial today to show you how to make an ornament with Upsy Daisy Rub Ons and Brads. It is super quick and easy and I think you will love how pretty it turns out.

First get yourself a package of plain glass ornaments. Second, choose a package of rub ons to decorate with. I chose the #UDD186. It's A Girl Thing.

Cut each rub on you want to use (keeping the backing attached) into separate pieces. From this collection I cut apart all the decorative circles and flowers:

Then, one by one lay the rub ons onto the ornament and start rubbing! Once you place the rub on onto the ornament without the backing it will begin to stick, so be sure you know where you want to place them first.

Continue placing rub ons until you like the pattern of your ornament. Some of the bigger rub ons may wrinkle a little on the shape of the ornament--that is totally ok because we are going to add one more thing to cover those places.

Next, grab a package of coordinating brads. I chose #BRD311. Blossom. Remove the brad wings by bending them back and forth several times (or cutting them with wire cutters or heavy duty scissors).

Fill the back of the brad head with some glue gun glue and adhere to your ornament. Add some ribbon around the top and that's it!

I love how pink and girly this one came out, but you can totally change the look by using a different collection of rub ons and brads!

Before I go, I want to share one more holiday project. I made this layout about our advent calendar with the Avalanche line. I thought the numbers from #AVA012. Extreme and the clock from #AVA015. Summit were perfect for a layout about counting the days until Christmas.

And to make the different edges for the accordion folded flowers?

I simply used different border punches on the strips of patterned paper before folding them!

Holiday Spirit

The holidays are officially upon us! No matter where you look, there are decorations, shoppers, parties, gifts -- and lots of holiday spirit.

Today, I'm going to share with you a few holiday-inspired cards, along with a little gift idea I discovered this year.

First up, a card I created by mixing papers from AVALANCHE, HOME SWEET HOME and SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR.

I really love how all the colors mesh so well together, even though they're from different lines. And since I was in a cardmaking kind of mood, I created this card from the HOME SWEET HOME papers:

I'd never realized that the colors in this line are traditional holiday colors...just with a different twist!

So I have the cards, now I need a gift to go with them! A few months ago, I found this wooden perpetual calendar from Queenvanna Creations on Etsy. I thought it would make a great gift, so I started altering it with papers from the VOGUE collection. I love this collection for home decor because the colors are so preppy and stylish. I'm so happy with the way it turned out.

I cut the words out of black vinyl with my Silhouette, and I cut the numbers from cardstock with my Cricut. I outlined the white numbers with faux stitches with a black glaze pen to make them pop.

Can you believe that we are as good as at then end of yet another year? It amazes me just how much time flies these days...I swear it was only a few weeks ago that we all enjoyed the Summer, no???

But I digress - it is time to say good-bye to a long standing friend of ours: the monthly sketch.

We have all enjoyed to play along to the sketches and I hope you got some inspiration out of them, but it is time for something new.

I'm so excited as I type this blog post, as it is my VERY first post as a Upsy Daisy DT member. Ohh how very honored I am. Yipppeee, okay on with the scrappy creation! :)
For this LO, I used the Vogue line, which I fell in love with on first sight. It's so versitile, and the colours are so rich and useable! I snapped this pic of my DD while we were away this summer and just knew I had to scrap it, I was just waiting for the right paper combo to go along with it, and it came to me when I saw these papers. I love how the blues and greens mix with the ocean colours of the photo.

Be There or Be Square!

Hi! My name is Jacquelin Green and I am one of the newest Daisies! I am so excited to join the team and happy to share a layout with you in my first blog post!

Living on the West Coast of Canada, we don't get a lot of snow, so when it does come we need to appreciate it and make the best of it! I captured my daughter making a snowfriend out of the tiniest amount of snow that fell this past weekend and the photos were a perfect match for the Upsy Daisy's Avalanche line!

UDD Product used: AVA012 Extreme; AVA013 Grind; AVA014 Powder; BRD315 Brads

Avalanche is a very versatile line - great for pages about boys, men, sports - but I love it for the SNOW! The rich colours are great for cards and holiday layouts, too!

I loved working with the square brads in this collection. There are so many uses for brads, especially these square ones! Their slightly larger size makes a great border or design - I used mine layered with a felt border and a lattice punched piece to draw attention to the photo and add interest:Brads can also be used for titles ( just add rub on letters!), to hang another embellishment on using a piece of any fibre, to form a photo mat or frame, to outline journaling or as a bullet for your journaling, to create a checkerboard pattern or a harlequin pattern ( think clown collar!) - the list is really endless!

I hope you all will find some inspiration today from my little project - and that you are ready to add your own unique style and ideas to the Avalanche collection!

Step by step project with Marielle

Hello to all of you, my name is Marielle and this is my first blog post for Upsy Daisy Design and I'm so happy to be here !!! (So sorry for being a day late ...my bad :( , I was home yesterday with my feverish little boy ! )
First , I'm going to share with you my take on the November sketch.

Supplies are from the See Ya Later Alligator collection and the brads from the Avalanche collection.
And now instructions on how to make a fun little gift box using the Home Sweet Home collection. I love the colors in this collection.

Start with a small craft supply box (I got mine at a dollar store).

Measure the top of your box and cut two pieces of pattern papers and round off corners as shown. I did some machine stitching on the outside edges ( because I love to sew on everything LOL!!)

Cut two strips of coordinating papers and glue to bottom .

Hand cut a few of the flowers,branches,leaves and houses to use as embellishments.

Make gift tag using your favorite mini alphas. I used pop dots to adhere many of the embellishments.

and finally fill your box with some goodies. I chose this lovely smelling potpourri but you could fill it with candy,chocolate,bath beads or even scrapbooking supplies . This little box will be a gift for my mom for her great hospitality over the Christmas holiday !!

I got to play with Avalanche papers for the November Monthly Sketch which you can see here. While I "borrowed" #MT2-015. Tyler from the Man About Town II Collection (for the circle cut-outs), this is really an Avalanche number!

Some close-ups for you: For my title, I used the "Boys will be boys" caption found in the #UDD194. Planes, Trains and Automobiles Rub-ons.

For this one, I rubbed my letters on my #AVA016. Wipeout paper first before I cut them out and adhered them on my square #BRD313. Vogue brads. I topped them with Ranger Industries' Glossy Accents for a glossy finish.

ALTERED BRAD HOLDERS

For my second project, I altered the Upsy Daisy brad holders as candy holders. My kids love these candy-coated chocolates, more so with this type of packaging!!! I used here papers from the See You Later Alligator Collection ( with the orange #UDD173. Sophie Love paper "borrowed" from the Circle of Friends Line).

Ready to be Spooked?

It's almost time! Break out the candy (or as we say here in Australia - lollies) and put in your best vampire teeth!

Halloween has never been a very big celebration here in Australia but it is getting larger every year. I'm excited by that - there's no better excuse to dress up, take photos and scrap a page about it! lol.

Using the new UDD "Home Sweet Home" paper line, I have created this page called "Dress Ups". My boys went "Safari" this year for their costumes. I painted scars on their faces and they are taking along their fave soft toy animals as their "prey". Soooo cute!

Another little project I have been busy doing for you this month is a little "How To" on making your own Halloween themed flowers.

For these flowers, you need to go to a fabric store and buy yourself some fringed trim - a yard would make at least 10 flowers.

Step One:

Assemble all of your supplies - you need some scraps of card, double sided tape, scissors and your trim.

Step Two:

Place a "cross" of double sided tape on your scrap card and stick down one end of your trim with the fringed part facing OUT.

Step Three:
Place your trim in a circle measuring approximately one inch on the inside. You need to do two circles - one inside the other. Just keep winding your trim around until you have almost closed in the circle.

Step Four:
Make a few flowers - you don't need to use them all on one project - put some aside for later.

Adhere them to your LO or project using some UDD brads - the corduroy covered ones look fantastic.

I hope you all like these little flowers - they remind me of little spiders. In fact, you could trim off some of the trim, leaving only little spiders legs! How about you give it a try?

Ice Cream Tutorial

Hello everyone and happy Monday. Today I would like to share with you how I made my easy peezy but cute Ice cream embellishment that I used in this page....

this was the page I made using Kim's October sketch. Make sure you check it out here and if so incline play along. We always look forward to seeing what people do with Kim's great sketches.

Ok so onto the tutorial. Here's what you'll need...
Papers
1" circle punch
bone folder or popsicle stick
sand block/paper
paper trimmer

*I adhered my ice cream with pop up adhesive so that it'll add dimension to the page.
*Papers are from the Circle of friends line and brads are from the "New Day" collection.

and I can't leave without sharing another easy peezy project that is Halloween inspired.

Halloween cupcake toppers

I used some dingbats to create my "spooky and silly" faces. I printed them off and colored them in with color pencils.

I then used some papers from the Enchanted line for the backs of each topper. I love the dark purple hues of that line. I think it totally coordinates with any Halloween project. After that, I added some orange glitter and ribbon, then placed them all on a popsicle stick and added to my cupcakes. Now how easy can that get?!

So there you have it. Hope you were inspired to make something fun today.

Fall Project!

HI everyone!

I decided to do a fall project with Upsy Daisy Designs products and it was so much fun! The neat thing about this project is that it could be used as a gift, a centerpiece, or a candle holder. I decided to make a cute centerpiece....

I used my curvy blade on my paper trimmer to cut strips from a piece of the "A Walk in the Park - Beautiful" paper. I left the strips attached at the top about 1/2 inch and then hot-glued them around the top of the container and the bottom, making them "bulge" out in a pumpkin shape.

I then added white ovals and the Upsy Daisy Designs black brads for eyes, an orange button for the nose, and Upsy Daisy Designs thick rick rack ribbon for the mouth.

I wanted my pumpkin to be a girl, so I made thin strips with the "Splendid" paper from the same paper line, and spiral wrapped them around a thin pencil to create curls. I added the green Upsy Daisy ribbon around the top of the container, and also added an orange UDD bow for her hair.

Then I went to work on the scarecrow!

For the scarecrow, I just cut out two sides of a shirt and used strips of Upsy Daisy Designs paper to make his clothes...(yes, I really sewed them together with the sewing machine!) Then I stuffed raffia into the doll and glued him together and attached him to a dowel rod. I added some ribbon for a bow and hat, a scalloped edge on his shirt with a little glitter glue... and that was it!

I also used the wonderful Helmar Adhesives for this project!

I think it turned out really cute! The Upsy Daisy Designs papers are so versatile for any season... which is one of the reasons I love them so much! Hope you like it too!

Are you all excited about Halloween already? In the UK we don't really celebrate it as much as our friends in the U.S. and Canada but that doesn't stop me from getting antsy about it and enjoy all the wonderful blog posts and pictures popping up everywhere across the net, showing fabulous Halloween projects and costumes.

During October, we would like to show you a few Halloween projects on the {{ Daisy Diaries }} and prove that you do not have to buy Halloween themed papers to go for the "boo" or "cute pumpkin" factor. But first off, let me show you this months' sketch, which I used to create a layout totally unrelated to Halloween....

More often than not, when I look at a sketch my layout will turn out completely different to the blueprint. Mainly because I pick one element off the sketch and put my own twist on it. In this instance, I took my inspiration from the layered circles - only on my layout they are

layered flowers :).

Warming Things Up With Avalanche

I don't think I have ever worked with a winter line that is more versatile than this one. As I schedule this blog post, it is past 4pm and still over 32 degrees Celcius....in early September. That is unheard of in eastern Canada. That being said, I am completely content to hold onto summer as long as I can so I created a page of my girls on Canada Day. It's certainly a different twist on a thankgiving page, but a great reason to be thankful just the same.

Be thankful

We all have different things that we are thankful for, right?
One of my major important things in life (apart from health and love, mind) is Music - I could not function without it.

Which is why you would never find me out and about without my trusted iPod.
To ensure it stays nice and neat I actually carry it in my handbag in the sturdy plastic container it came in - but after a while the plain white covers bored me.

So I took a sheet of #AVA014. Powder from the AVALANCHE line and a piece of left over paper #BLO014. Precious from the BLOSSOM line to make this:

It did not take long to trace the outline of the original white cover and I simply glued the paper straight onto it. A few Helmar Zapdots later and the circles were raised from the background and gave some additional dimension.

Clouds

Hi there, it's me Julia Saddi : ) and today I come to share with you girls few clouds of my very own style. Hope you all like and try them out. Materials:
- Upsy Daisy Vogue Collection
- 2 White Cardstocks
- 1 Riptide Blue Glimmer Mist or similar
- White Fabric Puff ink
- 1 Post-it full adhesive Craft Paper size A4
- Sun: either a die-cut or an embellie made by yourself
- Whatercolour tubes
- Fine brush
- Small Yellow Alphabet
- Precision Scissors
- Blue Bottons
- Ribbons
- Color markers

1. Masks' Negative Technique:

First of all, you should either draw or find a cloud set pattern you may like to work with. Here I used an old cloud set pattern I keep on my patterns' box. I drew them on a Post-it full adhesive Craft Paper size A4, cut them out with a small precison scissors, then peeled the non-sticking paper on the back of them. Next, I glued the clouds on the top of a white cardstock, 'cause they should work as a mask negative on my project. First two photos:

After arranging the clouds on the white cardstock, I srayed riptide blue glimmer mist around all the area where I chose to be the sky on my Layout. You can take the excess ink, if you want, by gently tapping a clean white napkin onto it. After the glimmer mist has dried, you can remove the clouds' masks. The result will be like shown on the following photos:

2. Glimmer Mist Sray: I copied the clouds' patterns on the top of an UDD paper that I LOVE 'Vogue Fashionista' , sprayed glimmer mist on the top of them, waited for them to dry, cut them out and used on a Card Project, like shown belllow:

3. White Fabric Puff Ink applied to Scrap and Card Making: at this time I pulled out of my patterns' box a huge cloud, drew it on a cardboard, cut it out, glued UDD New Paper #AVA014 Powder onto it, then cut off all the excess paper. To soften the blue and give a certain touch of reality into the big cloud, I painted the top of it using white watercolour tube, fine brush and white napking to suck/drie the excess water. Right after this, I circled the outer cloud with White Fabric Puff Ink and dried the puff ink with an emboss heat gun. Kept it aside. I drew a small cloud on a scrap of Fashionista paper, did not use any watercolor, but also used puff ink - same process. Then I fixed the smaller cloud with foam tape over the bigger cloud. Glued ribbons on the button of the big cloud, glued blue doodlebug buttons and a die-cut sun. Chose a simple title for all occasions: Hi! and attached a thin waxed ribbon to it. Voilá! Last photos:

The new lines...

I'm sure you've drooled...I mean "seen" the new lines from Upsy Daisy Designs. Aren't they fabulous?!

Here's some projects I made with them...

Birthday duo

This page features the new Avalanche line. If you see this line, you'd think masculine page or snowy themed layouts....but not I....I was inspired to use it for a birthday page because of the happy birthday block from one of the papers in the line.

I used my favorite stamp- the shaped journaling block stamp from the My guy collection.

added some Upsy Daisy designs letter rubons onto cardstock and then adhered with pop up dots for more dimension.

this cute block was the inspiration for the page. Added some fabric brads to finish off the page.

and then I used Kim's wonderful sketch to jumpstart these two cards featuring the new Home Sweet Home line...

Hearts can build card

I'm still inlove with the quote strips from the Upsy Daisy designs papers. It made my sentiment a breeze to make. I also added some ribbon that Upsy Daisy Designs are now offering. Plus a brad from the Enchanted line.

I handcut the house image from pattern paper.

Home is where the Heart is card

I used strips of papers and some ribbons here. Another handcut sentiment from one of the papers in the line.

I created a subtle image of leaves in the white background using glimmer mist and a die cut shape.

handcut a heart from the same paper line and finished it off with a flower and a brad from the See Ya Later Alligator line.

Home Sweet Home!

Have you seen those gorgeous little "Home" themed cards and wrapping papers that have been put out for Christmas this year? They look like they straight out of a children's storybook and I am in seriously in love with them. It made me think about how I could achieve the same look using the new Upsy Daisy range of "HOME SWEET HOME" papers.

Here's a couple of Step by Step pictures with instructions on how to create a paper pieced Picket Fence to embellish your page - perfect for pages about your home, a friend's new house, the family pet or - like I have done, a new baby.

How to create your own Picket Fence!

You need:

plain cardstock or thick paper

metal ruler

exacto knife and scissors

pencil

Measure out your cardstock at 1cm widths - you need about 20 - 30 picket fence palings, depending on how long you want your fence. Each fence paling also needs to be 8cm tall

Either use your exacto knife or a pair of scissors to cut each fence paling up into the cardstock.

Use your scissors to snip the tips off the fences at an angle.

Add some puffy mounting tape to the back of each fence paling.

Adhere your fence to your layout over the top of two thin strips of paper (to act as the back fence rungs).

And here is the finished layout - celebrating the safe arrival of my god-daughter Sophia :).
I have also created this card using the fence paling idea - this would be great to use for someone you know who is moving into a new home:

Slip Sliding with the new "Avalanche" papers from UDD!

One of the things I love about the new "Avalanche" line by Upsy Daisy Designs is that it is so versatile. Sure, there is a snowflake paper, but there are also great stripes, plaids, and patterns! It's really about scrapping an adventure....

We visited Texas this summer to spend time with my two sisters, their children, and my parents. We went to a steak house (of course!) and what did we find? A big SLIDE! The kids were thrilled. I edited a lot of the pictures in Photoshop so I could put all of our kids on the slide at the same time. Hope you have fun looking at my results!

Monthly Sketch - August 2010

Welcome to August - I hope you are enjoying your summer, even though the days are already getting shorter.
Then again, that gives us more time to spend in the craft room, right?

If you need something to kick start your mojo, why not have a look at this months' sketch and the DT Examples (you can enlarge the view of each image by clicking onto it). We were all very excited to get creative with the new lines AVALANCHE and HOME SWEET HOME.

I fancied using the winter-based papers from AVALANCHE first, probably because it is so hot here that I could do with a little cooling down :)

A Beautiful Birthday

For one of this month's projects, I used the "Vogue" papers that I love so much to make a birthday card. My daughter turned the big infinity (eight) this month, so I've had birthdays on my mind!

The most challenging and also fun part of scrapbooking or card making for me is to use many elements (embellishments, techniques) and still have the project look simple, detailed, and beautiful.

This card includes hand stitching, rub-ons, a ribbon punch, hand-cut flowers, marker, ink, brads, pop-up dots, and texture paint. I still have a lot of white space and the design flows beautifully. I used two colors of thread for the hand stitching (silver and green) to create a little "whimsy."

This is one of my all time favorite cards... so I hope you like it too!

With this soft look project I intended to show you my daughter sweetness. I love this schoolpicture and it surely deserved an LO with great papers and embellies.

Materials: UDD See You Later Alligator and Blossom Collections, Blossom Brads.

Techniques: Distressing , Machine-stitching, Handwritten journaling, white ink for softening

We are currently accepting applications for 2 - 3 new Designers to join our talented team.

Interested individuals should submit the following information to info@upsydaisydesigns.com with subject heading “Design Team Call”:

1. Full Name
2. Contact information (address, phone, email)
3. Three (3) projects (layouts, cards and/or altered items) representing your best design work. Jpeg files should be no larger than 500kb.) ***
4. List of current design teams and link to your resume.
5. List of your Publications.
6. Link to your online gallery (if you do not have one, please include a few extra layouts)
7. Link to your blog, if applicable.
8. Share why you wish to join the “Upsy Daisy Team” and how your style would complement our designs. Please tell us how much time, per month, you are able to allocate to your “Upsy Daisy” designer commitments.

Submission deadline is September 26th, 2010, 11:59pm

International applicants are welcome!

***Preference will be given to those applicants using “Upsy Daisy Designs” products. We want to see how you use our product.***

Positions will start in October 2010 and will run for one year. Team members will be supplied with “Upsy Daisy” products and will be required to submit two (2) projects per month ( clear photos or scans)

Hello, Upsy Daisy fans. It's Tracey Taylor here posting my very first post as an Upsy Daisy design team member and I couldn't be more thrilled. :)

I live on the east coast of Canada with my husband and three daughters. I am a French teacher by profession turned stay at home Mom. Scrapbooking quickly evolved from a slight interest to full blown passion after the birth of my girls. This wonderful hobby keeps me learning, working and teaching all the while preserving those everyday moments that make life special. I LOVE every minute.

The page I created for today's post uses my all time favourite sheet of Upsy Daisy paper (yellow/daisy) and a banner, my new addiction.

Papers from Applesauce and Hot Chocolate lines.

My oldest daughter spent many months excited about being a big sister again before her baby sister arrived. Since then, she asks to hold her everyday and then says, "Mommy, would like make a nice picture?" followed by a big grin. Of course it would! :)
